Applications for Coach for College, a three-week summer service program, are now open! The deadline to apply is Tuesday, March 8th.
Coach for College is a program open to all current varsity student-athletes (including graduating seniors), which aims to increase higher education attainment among disadvantaged Vietnamese children. This unique program invites American student-athletes to travel abroad and gain valuable leadership experience as they teach, coach and mentor youth in rural Vietnam.
The PVC will sponsor up to 7 student-athletes to participate this summer. Coach for College and the PVC are working with the Vietnamese parties to monitor COVID-19 and confirm whether this summer’s program is able to return in-person in Vietnam.
Please note that travel to Vietnam will be contingent on a number of factors including University international travel guidelines, government travel restrictions and public health advice.
If the program takes place in-person, the PVC will fund approximately $4,180 per participant (includes airfare, ground transportation, lodging, meals, visa processing, health and liability insurance, uniforms, etc.). Participants will be asked to fundraise $1,000 to cover additional costs for the program.
If the program takes place virtually, the PVC will fund the entire reduced program cost for each participant. The virtual model student-athletes participated in last summer included lesson prep during the day and live instruction with Vietnamese students over Zoom in the evenings. Interested applicants can click here learn about the rewarding experience that Princeton student-athletes enjoyed last summer or visit www.PrincetonVarsityClub.org for more information.
Participants can choose from three different camp sessions, with the dates noted below.
- May 25th – June 20th
- June 22nd – July 18th
- July 20th – August 15th
Applications will be reviewed by the Coach for College program and members of the Princeton Athletic Department, with formal offers extended to selected student-athletes by the end of March.
Please reach out to Melissa Stephens (Assistant Manager, Athletics Advancement, mstephens@princeton.edu) with any questions regarding the program or the application process.
