The Princeton Varsity Club sponsored seven Tiger student-athletes to participate in the Coach for College program in Vietnam this summer. Coach for College is a global initiative aimed at promoting education through sports. Over the last ten years, the PVC has sponsored more than 60 Princeton student-athletes across a variety of varsity teams to participate in the program, which combines their passion for service and sports to teach academic, athletic and cultural skills to underprivileged middle school students in Vietnam.
As part of the program, Princeton student-athletes spent three weeks bonding with Vietnamese students, instructors and other student-athlete “coaches” from American Universities. Each athlete was assigned to a team that they worked with to develop lesson plans and athletic competitions for each school day. The teams then engaged in friendly competition over the summer, earning points for the educational and athletic success of their respective students. At the conclusion of each week, winning teams earned prizes for their classrooms which culminated into a large celebration for all of the students at the end of camp.

Summer 2022 program marked the first time in two years that Princeton student-athletes traveled to Vietnam for the program (summer 2021 was facilitated virtually). This summer’s Tiger participants included:
Hanne Borstlap ’22 – Women’s Track & Field
Hannah Davey ’23 – Field Hockey
Joe Fast ’24 – Men’s Track & Field / Cross Country
Allison Ha ’25 – Softball
Kate Monihan ’24 – Women’s Ice Hockey
