Most Valuable Pals: Meet the Johnson Park JPALS

The Princeton Tigers are teaming up with Johnson Park Elementary to introduce a brand new student mentorship program. Created from a longstanding Reading with the Tigers partnership with Johnson Park, the new JPALS initiative will match student-athletes with a younger elementary student to help teach valuable lessons in alignment with the school’s pledge to be responsible, respectful, safe, kind, and successful.

Nearly 30 student-athletes across 10 different sports have already been matched through the program with hopes of expanding the partnership starting next school year. On Wednesday, May 1st these new mentors met their JPALs for the very first time during a special celebration at the school. The student-athletes led a cheerful high-five tunnel as the students were introduced in their own starting lineup and then met their new JPAL at the finish line where they presented them with a custom MVP (Most Valuable Pal) medal. The event also included team photos, pizza and snacks, in addition to lots of fun recess activities on the playground.

Student-athletes will return to the school next fall to officially begin mentoring and cultivating their relationships with the students.
