The Princeton Varsity Club held its Winter Coaches Luncheon on February 2nd, where a selection of winter head coaches and accompanying student-athletes gathered to speak with university and community partners.
Those teams in attendance included Women’s Basketball, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Ice Hockey, Men’s Ice Hockey, and Wrestling. Each featured head coach, including Courtney Banghart (Women’s Basketball), Mitch Henderson ’98 (Men’s Basketball), Jeff Kampersal ’92 (Women’s Ice Hockey), Ron Fogarty (Men’s Ice Hockey) and Chris Ayres (Wrestling), highlighted their respective 2015-16 squads, provided updates on their winter season to date and spoke to their program’s role in the Princeton Athletic Department’s core values of Achieve, Serve and Lead.

Additionally, student-athletes from each respective team were invited to speak to their Princeton expereince and the opportunities Princeton Athletics has afforded them to Achieve, Serve and Lead through athletic competition, in the classroom and beyond. Featured student-athletes included:
- Women’s Basketball – Alex Wheatley ’16
- Men’s Basketball – Spencer Weisz ’17
- Women’s Ice Hockey – Karen MacDonald ’16
- Men’s Ice Hockey – Kyle Rankin ’16
- Wrestling – Chris Perez ’16
The luncheon also recognized two student-athletes who were awarded the PNC Achiever Award for the winter season, which acknowledges and recognizes achievement across academics, athletics and community service. Those winners included:
- Women’s Basketball – Alex Wheatley ’16
- Men’s Basketball – Steven Cook ’17
With plenty of winter action still outstanding, Princeton Women’s Ice Hockey and Men’s and Women’s Fencing have already captured winter Ivy League Championship to-date, to compliment the four Ivy League titles from the fall (Men’s Water Polo also won the CWPA league championship). Additional Tiger teams hope to add to this total in the coming weeks.
