Reading with the Tigers traveled to Trenton, N.J. on Friday, March 25th. After nearly two years of being unable to visit the students of longstanding partner Christopher Columbus Elementary, the Tigers returned to the school and read and engaged with ten different classrooms. The partnership comes as a part of the Princeton Department of Athletics’ Tigers Together initiative, which helps foster relationships and meaningful engagement between diverse community groups and Princeton student-athletes.

The Princeton Varsity Club has partnered with Columbus Elementary School for Reading with the Tigers for the better part of the last decade. The PVC engaged most recently with Christopher Columbus Elementary School in 2021, when it joined with the Princeton University Class of 1980 to donate nearly 1,000 books to the school library and elementary students. This Reading with the Tigers marked the first time the school had hosted external visitors since the start of the pandemic with sixteen student-athletes volunteering to share their favorite childhood stories and personal experiences with the students.

The Tigers also visited local elementary schools in Princeton throughout March and April, allowing the program to reach a total of 40 classrooms across five different schools. Highlights from a visit to Littlebrook Elementary School earlier this semester can be viewed below.
