The Search for Princeton’s Next Director of Athletics

Dear Friends of Princeton Athletics,

As most of you know, earlier this month, Gary D. Walters ’67 announced his intention to step down as Princeton’s Ford Family Director of Athletics upon the completion of his 20th year in that role at the end of June 2014.

To conduct the search for Gary’s successor, we have assembled a 12-member committee, which includes two faculty members, two coaches, two student-athletes, two administrators and three alumni.  The committee will host open forums and other in-person meetings with current students, faculty, staff, and alumni, will conduct many sourcing interviews with members of the campus community and with leaders and thoughtful observers of intercollegiate athletics and higher education throughout the country, and will hold regular meetings until a selection is made in spring 2014.

A website has been created to keep the Princeton community informed about the search and to collect comments and suggestions.  To learn about and participate in the search process, please go to http://www.princeton.edu/athleticdirectorsearch/.  Responses will be shared only with members of the search committee.

The dates and times of open forums will be posted on the website as they are scheduled.
As members of the Princeton community, you have an important voice in the search for Princeton’s next Director of Athletics.  Thank you in advance for participating in the conversation and for sharing your thoughts with us.

Sincerely,

Cynthia Cherrey
