For over a decade, the Princeton Varsity Club has helped to bring Princeton varsity student-athletes, representing a variety of sports, to local elementary schools as part of “Reading with the Tigers.” As part of this multi-school annual event, Tiger student-athletes read to and interact with children ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade.
This past fall semester, the Princeton Varsity Club continued its reading partnerships with Christopher Columbus Elementary School in Trenton, NJ, as well as the Princeton Public School District Elementary Schools, including: Community Park Elementary School, Johnson Park Elementary, Littlebrook Elementary School and Riverside Elementary School. Princeton student-athletes across a variety of sports visited select classrooms to read to the students, all while speaking to their experiences in grade school on up to their present-day Princeton experience. More than 120 Tiger student-athletes participated in the fall reading dates, reading and conversing with nearly 60 unique classrooms.

We would like to thanks the Princeton University Office of Community and Regional Affairs for their support and assistance with the program. Additionally, we would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to the respective elementary school teachers and administrators for graciously opening their doors to our Princeton student-athletes.
Reading with the Tigers will return this spring semester with a Dr. Seuss themed reading event at Christopher Columbus Elementary School wrapped around “Read Across America Day.”
